Make Your Own Chia Drink

In a world that loves the "Super Food" of the week, I tend to take in the fads with a grain of salt. Everything is healthier than everything else and what is amazingly healthy for you today is poison tomorrow. There's so much back and forth its hard to keep up. I do not pretend to have any sort of medical training, unless you count my First Aid badge I earned in the Girl Scouts, but I know what has been helpful to me and what I like. I tend to subscribe to the common sense theory for dieting. Alfredo sauce is never the healthy option, water is better for you than sodas, and when faced with the option between potato chips and carrot sticks the healthy choice is obvious. Every now and again I find a fad that I end up really liking and I incorporate it into my kitchen. One of these fads is chia seeds. Yes, as in ChiaPet. But these little seeds pack a nutritional punch. These little guys are a good source of fiber, protein, omaga-3 fats, calcium, and also cont...

Nerd Christmas Came Early This Year!

When I was applying at ThinkGeek, and especially when I got called in for an interview, I did my research. I checked out the company history, looked at their competition in the market, and while familiarizing myself with their inventory found out they were having a big online sale! Being the good little nerd that I am, and being married to the awesome nerd that I am, we naturally ended up picking a couple things out and deciding that we were getting each other our Christmas presents early. I even stayed home all day Thursday because I didn't want to miss the delivery. Then, I realized everything was scheduled to be delivered Friday. OOPS! So, I stayed home all day Friday, too, because I was far too dang excited to possibly miss the delivery and have to go to the office on Saturday to pick it up. Let it be know ...

Pounding the Pavement

I have finally gotten over the baby plague! I feel so much better. No fever. I can breathe. I can sleep through the night. The headaches are gone. The coughing is over. It took way longer than I expected to get over. I felt like I had a really bad cold or the flu but it was neither so OTC meds didn't really help. I started feeling better after about a week, but when it came to getting out and exercising it flared up and I was hacking and coughing again. I decided to lay low for a little bit longer, not really exercising, but I did do little things like park farther back in the parking lot, walk every aisle at the grocery store, take the long route from store to store at the mall, etc. This week, I have actually gone out to exercise on purpose! I am genuinely excited by the fact that I put the leash on the pup and took him for an admittedly short walk around the parking lot at our apartments. It was just over half a mile to make the loop, and I had previously built up t...
