An unexpected payoff

This week has been a whirlwhind of the good kind of busy. It was a 50 hour work week, plus my side hustle. Then there's a house to run and oh, yeah! I have a husband that I didn't see for five days straight even though we live in a tiny one bedroom apartment. My alarm went off this morning and I jumped out of bed ready to go... only to realize that it's my day off!

My new job is at an amazing and HUGE bookstore. This was week two and I got assigned my sections. Apparently I have already cemented my reputation as the nerd among nerds. I am in charge of the Manga, Graphic Novels, and RPG Guides. My knowledge from ThinkGeek has already come in handy. I found some back-stocked mangas and put them out on the floor and the set sold in less than four hours. I would have never known about Death Note if I hadn't worked at ThinkGeek. Now I know about the anime and that the live action version is about to come out. Every copy of Naturo that we had in the back I put on the floor and all but three (out of over a dozen) sold. The best part was I preformed this little bit of retail magic as I was in training so an assistant manager witnessed the entire thing. I got some major brownie points for that one. Part of my job is stocking my sections, but I have total say over what goes out. We get over 80% of our stock from buying used books/media from the public so it's not like corporate is ordering titles and mandating what we sell. I'm going to have to do some research, especially on RBGs, to keep up to date but I'm excited. I think my sections will be fun.

I work full-time at the bookstore, but am still keeping my job at ThinkGeek. So, on one of my days off I donned my Timmy the Monkey shirt and went to my old stomping grounds. Compared to the action and constant running around at a 55,000 foot bookstore, the chill and, at times, slow little mall store was, well.... slow. Three hours at the book store pass faster than the last hour at ThinkGeek. Not that I don't still love my geek store and especially the people there, but man can the day drag if there aren't enough customers coming in. It was nice to be back though.

My side hustle is dog sitting. This week every day before work (book or geek) I drove across town for some puppy loving. I've been dog sitting for my parent's neighbors since I was in high school. It's a drive to schlep thirty miles to play with doggies, but these dogs are like my own and I adore them.

All in all not including commutes I put in a solid 55 hours this week. I did well eating, pre-planning as much as possible so that I wouldn't need to go out for lunch or dinner. I did not work out at all this week. I thought things over and since none of my jobs involve sitting at a desk and while on the clock I'm on my feet I decided that what rest I could get was important. I got my full eight hours every night and am feeling good after a very hectic week. At my old office jobs after a forty hour week behind a desk I'd be exhausted on a Saturday morning. This morning when my alarm went off and, once I realized that I'm not working today, I went ahead and got up. I felt rested at 7 am on a Saturday morning. Even when I was a kid that didn't happen!

I did think about going for a walk this morning, but 1) this is my only day off 2) there is a ton of laundry to do 3) while I've been getting sleep I haven't had a rest day and 4) rest days are super important. With all that in mind, I decided to take the morning to chill and put my feet up. I am a little anxious to get started on some of the chores around here.

I honestly feel that this week is an excellent example of what taking care of your body can do. Healthy food, time outside (playing fetch and hauling boxes for customers at the bookstore), and proper sleep and you too can be up at 7 am on a Saturday drinking coffee and updating your blog while snuggling with your dog.

So, a Fat Nerd steps onto a scale...

I done did it, y'all. I got my scale out this morning. I can't say that I'm surprised, but I can say that I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Two hundred and freaking forty six pounds. It was a bit of a gut punch. I'm not happy. I know that I have lost weight since our move. I can see it in the mirror. I can tell by the way my clothes fit. But, as it stands this morning I have an official number. 246 Gross. Have I been heavier? Yes. Earlier this year. Have I (as an adult) been lighter? Yes... also earlier this year. Was I heavier when I got my ass in gear a few months ago? Yes. Can I do better? Also, yes. Am I going to be better? HELL YES!!! It's easy to pick a start date that is "later." You screw up on your new diet on Wednesday and decide to start over on Monday, or the first of the month, or the first of the year. Well, guess what? The first of the year is tomorrow. I'm not giving myself "one last night&

Offically Looking into 2018

The new year is fast approaching and I, like most of the world, am looking for what is to come and looking back one what has been accomplished. When I look back at 2017 all in all I am happy with what was accomplished. -- I went from a job that I really liked that didn't pay the bills to a job that I love that does pay the bills. WIN -- I've lost 22.4 pounds while just half assing my efforts. WIN -- I've helped my husband get off his pre-diabetes medication and lose over 40 pounds. WIN -- I won NaNoWriMo 2017 and wrote over 50,000 words in November. WIN -- I am truly happy with where I see my future going. WIN I did not lose the 50 pounds I wanted to. I did not finish my novel. I did not make my 1000 purposeful miles. I did not get close to any of these goals that I shared on December 31, 2016. But I feel like I did achieve goal number 1 on that list. Goal number 1 was Happiness. I feel like I did that. I am happy. I feel at ease. I feel content. I feel a

Seasonal Depression Has Kicked In, But I'm Still Kickin

Seasonal depression has a way of sneaking up on you. Looking back, I can see that my depression snuck in  about two and a half/three weeks ago.  It super hard this week.  I fell into my "exhausted for no reason" pattern and that's when I realized I'd slipped in. Tbis week, having realized I was mid-depressive episode I leaned into it to a certain extent. I had a couple days were I took un-necessary naps.  I didn't beat myself up for the days I slept in.  In the mean time I've also taken measures to combat my symptoms. I've made a point of spending time outside when the sun is out. I've made sure to eat healthy foods. I've snuggled with JackJack (my dog), and just allowed myself to be lazy and unmotivated. Today was my first day off by myself in over a week so I allowed myself a bit of chill and a bit of pampering.  I gave myself a facial, did an undereye treatment, and made my favorite meal.  I'm mixing it with some productive tasks as well
