Advocare Update

I'm still going strong on my AdvoCare One80. I've entered "Phase 2" and am starting to get a little bored with it. See, phase two stops the fiber (which I loved) and moves into meal replacement shakes. It's not that the shakes taste bad, or aren't filling, or anything like that. It's just that I get bored with the same thing over and over. When I signed up for the One80 I did the pre-order option where you didn't get to pick flavors. The Spark (which I love) flavors they sent in phase one was Fruit Punch (tastes like Hawaiian Punch) and Mango Strawberry (tastes like a mild strawberry lemonade IMHO). I am cool with both of those flavors and since you only drink them once a day it's a nice break from my usual water. -Side note: with drinking one serving of Spark every morning I've let go of coffee. I didn't go into this wanting to break my coffee habit, it just sort of happened.-

It's the shakes I'm bored with. With the pre-order option, they just keep sending you a chocolate flavor. It's good. I mix it with almond milk every morning for a quick and easy, nutritional, breakfast. It just gets old having chocolate every morning. I guess it doesn't help that I've already gotten into the habit of keeping Luna Bars in my purse for lunch at work every day. So, I end up waking up having one of two flavored drinks in the morning, a chocolate meal-replacement shake, and then one of two flavors of Luna Bars (my grocery store only sells two flavors in boxes and it's more expensive to buy individual bars).

I think that if I'd gone the route that allowed me to select my own shake flavors I wouldn't be so bored with it. AdvoCare has a good selection of shake flavors to pick from, but by doing the pre-order One80 I got a few freebies with my order so I went the freebie route. The freebie route gave me chocolate only. I think when I'm done with the One80 I'll start trying different flavors.

See, I like my results and I like the overall program... it's just the monotony that's getting to me.

That said after Phase 1 (that's 24 days) I've lost 7 lbs. and 5.5 inches overall. I did that with no exercise. The only changes I made where following the program.

The "Cleanse Phase" was the fiber and pills I talked about in my last blog. The "Max Phase" is: Spark and a pack of pills 30 minutes before breakfast. A meal replacement shake for breakfast. Pills 30 minutes before lunch and a pack of pills with lunch. And then dinner.

The pills I'm taking (that come with the One80 program) are the MNS3 system. It's basically a set of pills (packaged in little groups according to when you're supposed to take them. You don't have to take 2 pills from this bottle and 1 from that for breakfast and one from this bottle, one from that bottle and two form this other bottle for lunch. You take this package 30 minutes before breakfast- conveniently labeled- and this package 30 minutes before lunch- conveniently labeled- and these with lunch- conveniently labeled. Depending on the time of day it could be calcium, multi-vitamin, or omega-3s. the MNS3 is for energy and appetite management.

It's working.

I haven't had cravings for pizza, cheese, coffee, or chocolate. Which is great, because it leaves me to eat what I meal prep for dinner every night. (This week I got lazy and bough vegan Italian sausage and buns, so I can make BBQ sausage rolls for dinner and then an easy spinach salad.)

I've also noticed I've been sleeping better. I don't hit snooze four times every morning and I occasionally wake up before my alarm.

My nails are stronger and don't break as easily. Which is saying something, because I am hard on my nails at work.

My skin and hair look great, too. Even with all the extra flu-season induced hand washing my skin isn't drying out and my hair seems to have bit more bounce even though it is thick and long (half way down my back by now) plus dyed- which is hard on hair.

Overall, I'm loving the program and even though Phase 3 is just a repeat of Phase 2 I'm looking forward to it. I know I'm going to be super sick of chocolate meal shakes every morning. But that being said, I'm scoping out new flavors for when I'm done with the One80. And I'll probably do the fiber again because for some reason I love it.

As for my other goals for 2018, I’m doing pretty well so far. I have read 4 of 12 books for the year. I’ve lost 7 of 50 pounds. And have written 7870 words for my novel.

** As I said before, I do not work for AdvoCare in any capacity. If you are curious about their products you can check them out here and if you want to order anything from them you can find a distributor near you here.

So, a Fat Nerd steps onto a scale...

I done did it, y'all. I got my scale out this morning. I can't say that I'm surprised, but I can say that I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Two hundred and freaking forty six pounds. It was a bit of a gut punch. I'm not happy. I know that I have lost weight since our move. I can see it in the mirror. I can tell by the way my clothes fit. But, as it stands this morning I have an official number. 246 Gross. Have I been heavier? Yes. Earlier this year. Have I (as an adult) been lighter? Yes... also earlier this year. Was I heavier when I got my ass in gear a few months ago? Yes. Can I do better? Also, yes. Am I going to be better? HELL YES!!! It's easy to pick a start date that is "later." You screw up on your new diet on Wednesday and decide to start over on Monday, or the first of the month, or the first of the year. Well, guess what? The first of the year is tomorrow. I'm not giving myself "one last night...

Offically Looking into 2018

The new year is fast approaching and I, like most of the world, am looking for what is to come and looking back one what has been accomplished. When I look back at 2017 all in all I am happy with what was accomplished. -- I went from a job that I really liked that didn't pay the bills to a job that I love that does pay the bills. WIN -- I've lost 22.4 pounds while just half assing my efforts. WIN -- I've helped my husband get off his pre-diabetes medication and lose over 40 pounds. WIN -- I won NaNoWriMo 2017 and wrote over 50,000 words in November. WIN -- I am truly happy with where I see my future going. WIN I did not lose the 50 pounds I wanted to. I did not finish my novel. I did not make my 1000 purposeful miles. I did not get close to any of these goals that I shared on December 31, 2016. But I feel like I did achieve goal number 1 on that list. Goal number 1 was Happiness. I feel like I did that. I am happy. I feel at ease. I feel content. I feel a...

Luna's Fund- Gratitude and Humility

I've already mentioned how the Hogwarts Running Club got me out and running again. The club's main focus is charitable fundraising through running. Every year there are six virtual races of varying distances and there are special medals for each race. When you register for a race, you're paying for your medal, but mostly contributing to the charity that the race is supporting. Right now we are doing the Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody Constant Vigilance 5k in support of Limbs for Life . I think the HRC website explains the connection between Mad-Eye and Limbs for life the best: "Moody never let his injuries stop him. Moody fought in both the First and Second Wizarding Wars and captured many dark witches and wizards, but at a cost. He lost a leg, an eye and part of his nose in carrying out his duties as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic. It is in this spirit, we are thrilled to announce that proceeds from this event will go to support the Limbs for Life Fou...
